Assistant to the Moderator
Pastor Rodrick A. Smith is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana where he attended elementary school and high school. Pastor Smith received Christ in May of 1969 at the age of seven, was baptized and became a member of Zion Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana.
He graduated from Green Oak High School in 1979. He joined the United States MarineCorps in 1982, completing initial orientation training and testing in the United States Marine Core Military Police. In April of 1986, Pastor Smith received an Honorable discharge from the USMC. Pastor Smith graduated from the Tenth Marine Artillery Training School in 1984.
In 1996, he graduated from the United Theological Seminary and Bible College, Monroe, Louisana, receiving a Bachelor of Theology Degree. He received his Masters of Theology Degree from that same Seminary on May 23, 2003. Pastor Smith continued his biblical studies at E.K. BaileyMinistries Inc. of Dallas, Texas, receiving Certification in Expository Preaching in july of 2004. Pastor Smith is a Certified instructor for the District and the State Congress.
Pastor Smith preached his initial sermon in 1991. He was ordainedby the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Benton, Louisana in 1993. He pastored Bethlehem Baptist Church, Bellevue, Louisana from 1994 until 1999. Pastor Smith was the formerPastor of Galilee Baptist church, Plain Dealing, Louisana from June 5, 1999 until he was called to pastor Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Saginaw, Michigan in May of 2001.
He is happily married to the lovely Irma Gates-Smith and they are the proud parents of Angela.
Pastor Smith's favorite scripture is found in Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for the good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose."
